The various institutional modalities of policing Black women’s hair are a form of racist politics. WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE TABLE • A minimum Bachelor’s Degree in English, Creative Writing, Literature, African American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Latinx Studies, Sociology, Women’s Studies, Political Science, or another Humanities field. • Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Attention to detail and deadlines are a must. • Superb ability to take a proactive approach to projects with regard to pitching and implementing publicity campaigns, scheduling author interviews, and liaising with organizations and bookstores to arrange author events. You’re an excellent project manager. • Expertise in researching media outlets, book festivals, and event and college venues. You possess solid online-research chops. • You’re familiar with Excel or Google Sheets, Word, Google Docs, Doodle, and Google Forms • You have excellent grammar, punctuation, spelling, and proofreading skills. • You have a current LinkedIn profile. • You have a maximum of only one other part-time job. • Experience with a literary agency, writers’ organization, or public relations company is a plus. • Ability to meet in-person in San Francisco once or twice per month, near Van Ness Avenue and Market Street.
