Looking for a copy editor to review and edit a series of educational video scripts. Scripts have been written for an Australian student audience, and need to be "Americanized" to be suitable for students in the United States. "Americanizing" includes: - making general American English changes - spelling, grammar, phrasing, and terminology (e.g. "colour"/"color") - making subject-specific/education-specific changes - spelling, grammar, phrasing, and terminology (e.g. "Pythogoras' theorem"/"Pythagorean theorem", five/six kingdoms of life) - for some scripts, rewriting or adapting region-specific examples (e.g. "In Australia, the minimum wage is [x]."/"In the United States, the federal minimum wage is [x]." Scripts are for videos 3-5 minutes in length, or approximately 350 to 600 words each, and the material is designed for students in Grades 7-10. There are 100 scripts for each of the three following subject areas: Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics. You do not need to have experience in all three subject areas; you will be given scripts according to your area(s) of expertise. Ideally, you will have: - experience teaching/tutoring Social Studies, Science, and/or Mathematics at Grade 7/8/9/10 level in the United States - experience editing educational materials, such as textbooks, especially for Social Studies, Science, and/or Mathematics - fluency in or familiarity with conventions of written American English - experience using "Track Changes" and other editing features in Microsoft Word You will be sent batches of 4-15 scripts at a time, and each batch must be returned before the next batch is sent. Payment can be made per batch, or at the completion of all scripts assigned to you. The rate is hourly, as the degree of editing may vary from script to script. For example, a script that only requires minor spelling changes is expected to require less editing time than a script requiring a rewritten region-specific example. You will be required to complete a timesheet indicating time spent working on each script. The deadline for the current job is for all 300 scripts to be edited by the end of December 2024, however the deadline can be extended to January 2025 if required. There is also scope for the work to continue after this job, as there are expected to be another 300 scripts next year, another 300 the following year etc.
The Client: We are a boutique SEO agency and the client you’ll be managing is a major figure in the entrepreneurial space with a NYT bestselling book, a YouTube channel with more than 500k subscribers, and an extremely popular personal finance podcast. We produce ~20 blog posts for them every month. Our Production Process & Compensation We are offering anywhere between $35-$50/hr for this role, for up to 10 hours a week of work. If you are a more skilled applicant and are applying on the higher end of our range, SHOW us why in your proposal, and not just tell us something like “I have X years experience doing ABC”. You will most definitely need to be an English native in order to excel in this role. A simple marker is that if you use Grammarly (or any other tool) to do your edits, you’re not fluent enough for this role. This is a part-time and stable opportunity for skilled content editors looking for consistent work. We already have a team of writers and a VA who can assist you with what you need. Your specific duties include conducting line edits to refine our writers' work and elevate in order to meet our content production standards. This involves providing actionable feedback and clear instructions to help writers continuously improve. For example, you might: * Suggest restructuring paragraphs for better flow and readability. * Point out inconsistencies in tone, voice, or formatting and guide writers on how to correct them. * Flag over-complicated words and suggest easier alternatives. * Revise grammar, spelling, or punctuation errors while maintaining the writer's original intent. * Spot AI-generated or "mechanical" phrases and rewrite them to sound more natural and human. For quality assurance in our posts, we have multiple written guidelines and a library of Loom videos you can refer to assist with your editing. Inside those guidelines, we have provided clear instructions on how to best work with us and what we need from you explained in extreme detail - think of Mr Beast’s leaked employee handbook. One of those instructions is to start your proposal for this job with the word ‘waffles’ in order to pre-qualify yourself. Who we need: Our team is global, so you are expected to have impeccable asynchronous communication in order to integrate seamlessly with our team. Our writers are already supplied with their own frontloaded writing guidelines and library of Loom videos so they are also working on a lot of support - you should be a skilled editor who can deliver actionable feedback to our writers so that they can continuously improve their work. A smart content editor should also be able to use AI to speed up their editing process AND be able to edit out AI sounding phrases from your work. The bottom line is that the final work that’s delivered should always sound written like a human. The specific tech related skills you’ll need are with Google Workspace, Wordpress, and Elementor. Who we DON’T want: This role requires responsiveness, a willingness to learn, and a proactive attitude. If you struggle with constructive feedback, fail to communicate consistently within 24 business hours on Slack, or prefer to work independently without collaboration, this may not be the best fit for you. If you know how to utilize the tools and resources we put at your disposal, this should be a very easy job for a skilled enough content editor. How To Apply & Our Application Process Shortlisted applicants will receive a paid editing test project, and the best test project submissions will get the job. Send in your best proposal for the job and make your case on why you’d be worth giving a test project, and eventually pay you to watch a library of Loom videos to learn how to edit posts to our standards. Answer the screening question truthfully - not having worked with entrepreneurs before on course creation & launches is not a deal breaker, but knowing your actual experience level helps us make the best decision for this role. Ideally, the person we hire will be able hit the ground running and require minimum coaching.
Hi upwork experts I have a shopify jewellery web site. I'm doing dropshipping. My web site language is french and target country is France. I need someone to help me understand what the problem is and how I should create content. I don't expect to rewrite all the content in a month, but I do want to see some SEO improvement at the end of a month. To-Dos: 1- General site analysis and analysis of why I was negatively affected by the Google August update. 2- Revision or rewriting of product collection descriptions with competitor analysis and keyword research and human touch. 3- Revision or rewriting of blog posts with human touch.
